On April 27th, myself and 20 others made our way over to Lanzarote for a week full of warm weather and triathlon training. I couldn’t have asked for a better bunch who gave 100% everyday! We spent our days swimming, cycling, running, and having a great time!
We stayed at the Occidental Lanzarote Mar which had fantastic facilities to accommodate our training… an outdoor heated Olympic sized swimming pool, a brilliant variety of food to suit all types of diets, and relaxing areas for some post workout chill out time. All in all it was a fantastic hotel, and only 15 minutes from the airport.
The camp was brilliant- very well organised and tailored to meet and challenge everyone’s individual training needs all the time in a great friendly and fun group environment. Martin gave fantastic individual coaching out on the bike and feedback during the week which was very helpful when doing the 70.3 a few weeks later – Jennifer
Lanzarote Triathlon Training
So what did our days look like…
We began our day with a swim session. Our swimming training was led by Eoin Lyons, from Swim Fast Coaching, who got us going every morning. There was a variety of drills every day, and the 50m pool was a pleasure to swim in.
Each training session was tailored to each individual. These tailored sessions meant that everyone got the most out of each session, and could enjoy each and every day of the trip! Our cycles and runs were varied from long climbs to fast speed sets. We made sure no day was the same. Lanzarote provided us with incredible routes and roads to carry out these training sessions. Although there were some challenging climbs, everyone still enjoyed getting to explore Lanzarote by bike… we also got to take full advantage of the lovely coffee shops for some refuelling on our bike rides. A well deserved break.
Amazing opportunity to train in perfectly organized and structured swim, bike, run and mobility sessions. Top class coaching and facilities that gave a real professional touch to the experience – Ken
Although there was a lot of hard work, we got some rest too! With the intense training daily, we ensured to include mobility sessions. It is something that I always stress as great importance, and so we spent some of our down time stretching it all out!
The Volcano Triathlon
One of the major highlights of the trip was the last day when everyone takes part in the Volcano Triathlon… one of the oldest triathlons in Europe. It was a huge success with everyone crossing the finish line. A massive well done to everyone. We had some great results from our athletes. Eoin came in 5th overall amongst some of the highest standard of athletes, with Siobhan winning her age group. We are looking forward to seeing what next year brings!
